Think of your yard as a world of its own. You depend on it for beauty and relaxation. If you have pets, they think of it as a home or play area. For insects, it’s the dinner table. Your yard is filled with insects, both good and bad. There are a variety of reasons why your beautiful yard is falling prey to the insect population.

Reason 1: Pesticides
That’s right the pesticides you spray on your lawn to get rid of the bugs is actually killing off the predatory insects that munch on the bad ones. Believe it or not, there are some bugs you want to have in your yard. Insects like ladybugs, wasps, and honeybees are very beneficial to your lawn.

Reason 2: Standing Water
When water accumulates whether in a container or a puddle that never seems to dry up and you let it remain, you have a created a bug haven. Many common insect pests are attracted to standing water. Bugs like mosquitoes, roaches, and some spiders will be drawn to standing water to lay eggs or to hunt. Empty out those water spots as soon as possible to avoid an invasion.

Reason 3: Unraked Leaves
Leaving fallen leaves on the ground invites quite a few problem critters into your lawn. Many worms, ants, spiders, and beetles will feast on these leaves and then your trees and shrubs. Keep the yard raked so these pests have no place to gather.

Reason 4: Over-watering
Just like standing water invites the pests, so does over-watering your lawn. Many insects and rodents are attracted to overly moist soil. These pests will burrow and root through your yard causing unknowable damage.

Reason 5:Not Maintaining a Healthy Lawn
To keep the pests away from your lawn and home, the best way is to keep your lawn healthy. Regular mowing, raking, and weed eating can go a long way toward keeping the bugs from moving in.

In addition to these, keep in mind that there are some plants you put in your yard that will help to control the insect invasion. Learning how to control the insects may seem time consuming, but your yard is meant to be enjoyed. Don’t let the insects and pests drive you indoors.
