Something else that you will need to decide is that if you want to use grass seeds or lay grass sod. You should keep in mind that although grass seed is the least expensive way to grow grass, it takes a much longer time to grow. Grass sod is expensive but it is basically instant grass! It is almost like a carpet of grass.
When growing grass quickly keep these tips in mind. They will help you not waste any money!
- Plant seeds at the right time of the year. Sounds silly but is a common mistake. We’ll talk more about this below.
- Choosing the right type of grass. It is advised to talk to a local garden expert to find out what the best type of grass is commonly used for you area. One example is Bermuda grass and it is the best kind of fast growing grass for hot areas. Rye is the best kind of grass for fast growing in colder regions. But again the best option is to take advice from your local garden expert as they would be able to recommend the right kind of fast growing grass according to your region.
- Planting during the right time of the year is another important factor to grow grass quickly. If you plan to plant grass during the middle of the summer season then it is really rare that the grass will grow quickly and would be hard to get it going. On the other hand it would not be a great idea to plant in the winter seasons as it will be way to cold to grow grass. Therefore the ideal season to grow grass is during the spring season when it isn’t too cold or too hot.
- It can take quite some time for the grass to get established and it could take months! For example if the grass is planted in spring then by the start of summer the grass will be ready and if the grass is planted during the fall then it will be ready at the time when frost would start to appear. It takes time and lots of care so be patient!
